Darwin, NT's capital

Darwin, the NT's thriving capital attracts globetrotters to its outdoor lifestyle of waterfront dining, beachside markets, crocodile adventures and historical experiences and festivals. This thriving territory capital has so much to offer throughout the year. Whether you want to eat your way through local produce or feed wild crocodiles, there is something for every individual or family group in Darwin and its surrounds.

Local markets

Tuck into local produce, browse through beautiful handicrafts and art whilst being entertained by numerous performers at Darwin's local markets. Catch Darwin's iconic sunset and mingle with the locals at The Mindil beach markets on Thursday (5-10pm) and Sunday (4-9pm) starting on the last Thursday in April until the last Thursday in October. Year round suburban markets in Parap, Nightcliff and Rapid Creek will delight a wide variety of tastes with their multiple International and Asian food stalls.

Learn about the area from live commentary by your captain and get the chance to see batfish and other marine critters. Be sure to bring your camera to capture fantastic photos. Book your cruise before you to go secure your space.

Jumping crocodile cruises

As you cruise along Adelaide River (about an hour's drive from Darwin), see crocodiles up close and watch as your guide entices saltwater crocodiles to jump up and snatch their food. After your cruise, visit the Window on the Wetlands Visitor Centre, where you can see birds of prey scavenge for leftovers. You'll also see an educational display with sweeping views over the wetlands. Before heading back to Darwin, visit Fogg Dam Nature Reserve, a Top End wetlands ecosystem with an abundance of birds and reptiles. Book your cruise before you go as part of your self-drive or plan the experience as part of an organised day trip from Darwin.
