A popular attraction in Osaka is Osaka Castle. The castle was built in the 16th century and played an important role in the unification of Japan. The castle endured a number of destructions over the centuries and still stands today, restored and open to tourists. The accompanying museum in the castle and the gardens around it are impressive and elegant.
